12-07-2011: **Spring Recruitment 2012 Information**
Spring Recruitment is a much more informal process than the more common Fall Formal Recruitment held in August. There is no registration or materials required for Spring Recruitment. Women interested in joining a Panhellenic sorority will simply need to attend the Spring Recruitment Information Session held Wednesday, Feb. 1st at 6pm in the Matador Room of the Student Union Building (2nd floor).
By attending this event, women will learn more about Greek Life at Texas Tech and the various opportunities to join a sorority. Recruitment events will take place by invitation from participating sororities at the time and location of the sorority's choice. There is not a pre-assigned schedule nor will the Panhellenic Executive Council facilitate the invitation process. Spring Recruitment is much more informal and relaxed than Fall.
Sororities that are below chapter total are eligible to take members in the spring semester, however it is the chapter's perogative to invite women to join their organization. The exact sororities that meet this requirement will not be known until closer to the spring and will be announced at the information session. Not all sororities will have available spots in their membership numbers, but 6-10 is usual.
For more information, please contact the Center for Campus Life at 806-742-5433.

04-10-2011: Panhellenic Hosts "Something of Value"
Texas Tech University’s Panhellenic community has joined together to bring the National Panhellenic Conference Something of Value (SOV) program to campus for the first time. Texas Tech hosts 11 of the 26 sororities the conference houses and participants from each chapter will be present at the day-long event.
The SOV program is an initiative that provides sorority women a platform to collaborate and start a wave of change in campus culture. Participants will engage in the program from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 9 at various locations in the English building.
The agenda for the program includes a mock trial, group discussions of values and presentations over confrontation skills. Goals of the program are to identify risky behaviors in a non-threatening setting and form a commitment for sorority leaders to use their joint strength to influence other members of their chapters.
Justine Taylor, risk management chair of the Panhellenic Executive Council, said she believes many chapters on the Texas Tech campus overlook issues that are hardest to deal with and this program can give solutions to the issues.
“Something of Value presents a rare opportunity to dive into risk management education as it pertains to our Panhellenic community. Sororities will be able to discuss the issues facing our community and help build a plan of action to alleviate these problems firsthand,” Taylor said.
Issues that SOV wishes to address include substance abuse, academic dishonesty, eating disorders, financial mismanagement, hazing, harassment, personal safety concerns and other issues specific to the Texas Tech campus environment -

04-01-2011: Greek Build 2011
The Greek Community just completed their second Habitat for Humanity Greek Build, providing a new home for the Diaz family.
Texas Tech University’s four Greek councils—Interfraternity, Multicultural Greek, National Pan-Hellenic and Panhellenic—collaborated with the Texas Tech and Lubbock Habitat for Humanity organizations for the 2011 Habitat for Humanity Greek Build. The week-long project was focused on constructing a home for a local family in need.
The family receiving the finished home is Jessica Diaz and her three children, Alexandra, Isabella and Sebastian. They will be moving out of Diaz’ mother’s two-bedroom house, where she and the two girls share a bed while her son sleeps with his grandmother. After the completion of the house, it will be moved into the neighborhood where they now live.
Greek Build raised about $50,000 along with the leftover funds from the 2009 build. Countless hours were spent building this home by almost 700 Greek, Lubbock and Tech Habitat for Humanity volunteers. A closing ceremony to present the house to the family took place at 6:30 p.m. March 28 at the construction site.
